What happened to the once-great Newton Public Schools (NPS)?
The May 22, 2023, Newton School Committee meeting featured the Department of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) and their Year-In-Review 2022-23, which includes goals that have become the priority for the district.
Gender Ideology Highlights
This spring, the DEI “committee was relaunched with a focus on gender-affirming practices. Staff and administrators from across the district began developing a statement of values and commitment to gender identity.”
Lack of transparency: Some parents were informed of an upcoming 5th-grade puberty and gender identity lesson, but if they wanted to view the full lesson, they were required to go to the school to view the curriculum. Shouldn’t NPS be proud of what they are teaching and share broadly?
Gender ideology in K-12 schools is problematic:
NPS is teaching children to deny the reality of their own bodies and choose their gender.
NPS is not teaching the truth about gender ideology origins and the harm it is causing.
Pronoun use normalizes gender identities, and children are being taught this is “inclusive.”
The claim that gender affirmation will save lives is a myth and dangerous.

It's time to start important conversations about what is happening in your schools. There are many concerned parents who have started to speak up and ask questions. Charles Love recounts the hypocrisy that pervades DEI in The Toxicity of DEI: A Tale From Newton, Massachusetts.
